Melchsee
The Melchsee is at the centre of Melchsee-Frutt, to which it lends its name. Nearly 2,000 metres above sea level, it is dammed by an articifial embankment. The Hugschwendi power plant, operated by the Elektrizitätswerk Obwalden (EWO), produces electricity.
Fishing in Melchsee
There are eight different types of trout and char in the Melchsee. Many fishermen come to Melchsee-Frutt to go mountain lake fishing. On the frozen lake in winter ice fishing is possible.

Barbecue sites at the Melchsee
There are two barbecue sites by the Melchsee ready to use in the Vogelbüel area and Balmeregg. Dry wood and a grate are available – providing barbecue’s fun for the whole family.

Hiking
There is a signposted hiking trail around the Melchsee. When covered counterclockwise, the route is suitable for strollers. The round trip takes about 1 hour.
